  • Leírás: Film production supported by the British occupation forces as part of the Re-Orientation Program. Set in post-war Germany, the film tells the story of the Stadtmeier couple, who are on their way to visit their relatives in the countryside to "hoard" food. During a rest stop, they both fall asleep. They dream of their arrival at the Landmeiers' farm, where they are initially received suspiciously. Their request for "a few eggs" or "a little flour" is rejected on the grounds that they don't have enough themselves, while Mrs. Landmeier is seen preparing lunch. In addition, hoarding city dwellers are constantly standing in front of the door. They also reject the barter goods of the Stadtmeiers, only a bottle of schnapps is found to be good. When Mr. Stadtmeier is offered only a slice of bread sparsely covered with sausage, he's had enough: The Landmeiers live in clover and do not deliver their grain as required, while in the city people suffer from food shortages. The farmer replies that the city dwellers are lazy, while in the country they have to work hard. They finally agree to swap roles for a certain period of time. The city dwellers are initially dazzled by the abundant food supplies of the country dwellers. But then they learn the downside of life on the farm: the cows have to be milked, sacks of grain filled, the horses' hooves renewed. They have to buy the services of cobblers, tailors, chimney sweeps and tanners with grain and milk. Thus, nothing is left for deliveries to the city. Meanwhile, the Landmeiers learn about the arduous life in the city. They suffer from the cold in the apartment and the shortage of food. Mrs. Landmeier has to wait in line for hours to get a ration card, while her husband toils at monotonous work on the assembly line. In the grocery store, there are only tiny rations, the supply is severely limited. In the evenings, they suddenly find themselves in the dark because an electricity cut-off has been imposed. Like the Stadtmeiers at the beginning, the Landmeiers eventually return to their farm. Stadtmeiers and Landmeiers now know each other's daily lives. They promise to stand by and help each other in times of need in the future. Now Stadtmeiers wake up from their dream and decide to go back to the city.
